Six events, Two sermons, One interview – in four days!  It was a whirl-wind Northwest book tour for Nadia, but she totally killed it.  New fans snowballed with every stop on the tour remarking, “We have a new Anne Lamott”!

It’s likely that God wont bless you with massive wealth for ‘planting your love seed’ by buying Nadia’s book… you’ll actually be a little bit poorer, but hey, it’s a good read.  So take a listen and/or buy the book.  You can also hear Nadia’s sermon at Church of the Beloved on 1|18|09 here.

Gospel Text: When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?”

They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”

“But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?”

Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by men or women, but by my Father in heaven.  And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.  I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.”

Church of the Beloved Presents : Nadia Bolz-Weber

Nadia Bolz-Weber will be giving some hilarious readings from her new book Salvation on the Small Screen? that chronicles her experiment of watching 24 consecutive hours of cable televangelism-prosperity gospel fare on Trinity Broadcasting Network.  28 contributors, including Bible Scholars from Iliff School of Theology, a gay Unitarian, her non-religious ex-boyfriend, a couple Jews, her Evangelical parents, Lutheran pastors and her 9 year old daughter all joined Nadia for an hour each so that the book becomes a conversation between what’s happening on the TV, what’s happening on the sofa, and what’s happing in the writer’s head.  The result is a narrative which is frequently hysterical, often insightful and occasionally totally surprising.

“Turn off your TV and read this book. It’s enlightening and entertaining and
it doesn’t emit any radiation whatsoever.”
–AJ Jacobs, author of The Year of Living Biblically

Music by Tara Ward.  Wine and Cheese reception.  This event is free for you.
