Kic-Nic 08
Last August Beloved went head-to-head with Church of the Apostles and Gift of Grace in the first annual KicNic (kickball tournament + picnic). Each team would play each other once (each game consisting of 3-innings) and the winner would be the team with the most wins… thinking back it may not have been the greatest tournament set up due to there only being three teams, but I digress. The first match up was between COTA and Gift of Grace. COTA won without a problem. We were up next vs. GoG and I felt confident from watching the previous game that we would really hand it them. We didn’t. This put us up against COTA. If COTA won, they would take the tournament with 2 wins and we would come in dead last. If we won, it would be a three-way tie, so obviously this was a big game and we knew it. This time the team was ready. We had our game faces on and in the 2nd inning came alive. It was a great feeling rounding the bases and seeing Beloved players tag home base. With the help of a new green kickball (our team color) we secured a big W, scoring 6 runs! After the tourney, we feasted on the wonderful spread of picnic food including hamburgers, brats and fresh fruit. Team mom Bonnie also brought this amazing fruit dip that was to die for.
So in the end, the Kicknic finished in a three-way tie (unless you go by the number of runs scored and in that case we really kicked ass) and with my belly full of deliciousness. I see the formation of a kickball
league…
